Richard “Dick” Claborn Farr Corporate Executive, Private Investor Farr Investments West Hartford, CT www.marquistopexecutives.com/2019/08/16/rich ard-claborn-farr Mr. Farr is both a successful corporate executive and a private investor. As a corporate executive from 1952 to 1980, he held numerous high-level positions. Notably, he served as executive vice president for Crown Zellerbach Corporation, headquartered in San Francisco. Prior, he was corporate vice president of Heublein, Inc. in Farmington, Connecticut, and was senior advi- sor to the company’s founder. Mr. Farr was also managing director for Lehman Brothers, Inc. in New York City, and the senior vice president of Continental Grain Company in New York City and Paris. He functioned in various roles with that inter- national, privately held firm, including as special executive assistant to the owner, CEO, and the owning family. Initially in his corporate career, Mr. Farr earned the opportunity towork in an acclaimed and highly competitive management development program for Procter and Gamble at a time when the company was hiring individuals exclusively with a master’s degree or higher. Mr. Farr moved into operational management and then general management quickly, and continued to progress rapidly. He was promoted to a position in the company’s executive offices in 1960. He retired from the corporate world at age 50 and founded Farr Investments in West Hartford, Connecticut, and has served as the firm’s CEO ever since. With portfolio companies acquired through Farr Invest- ments, Mr. Farr has served on numerous boards and committees. He chaired and was CEO of Lincoln Logs Ltd. Additionally, he was an early investor, a director and occa- sional officer of the American Power Conversion Corpora- tion, Seal, Inc., Callaway Golf Company, Air Florida Systems, Inc., Air Sunshine, Archimedes Systems, Inc., American Bituminous Coal Corporation, Hunter Environmental Ser- vices, Inc., and Palladium Industries, Inc. as chairman of the board. Mr. Farr was a mutual funds trustee of Scottish Wid- ows International Fund, the William Penn Group of Funds, and Federated Funds. Illustrative of the diversified nature of his investment portfolio, he is the owner of Graded Stakes Championship thoroughbred racehorses.
