Fourth Edition | Marquis Who’s Who Insight 9 I want to make sure I am right there during this metamorphosis that is happening in the art world. The pandemic has contributed because people have been staying home looking at their four walls. They are thinking more about the importance of art. How have you navigated disruptions in your industry to remain a top professional? I just keep advancing. If you continuously advance, when you look back, no one can catch you because you’re too far ahead. That works for everything that you do in business. We always advance, we are always looking forward and we are always paying attention. What are two key behaviors/personality traits that allow you to be effective in your role? When people think, they use the left side of their brain, which is analytical, or they use both sides of their brain. I only use the right side because I am always looking at things creatively — I am always looking at the point of view that no one sees. I am not saying it’s better, it’s just my way. Within that realm, I have two rules: you can’t have integrity issues and you can’t take the fun out of things. What is the most important issue/challenge you are dealing with in your industry? Everything is working. The biggest challenge now in retail is employees. I kept my employees. They are like children to me and I feel I am their mentor. People were mentors to me and that is what made me better. They are family now. If they leave, I would have to close up. What innovations or technologies do you feel will shape the future of your industry? Technology has an influence on everybody and every- thing. We are reaching out much more digitally. Magazine advertising and newspaper advertising has receded some. That is a hard world to navigate. What excites you the most about your industry? I think it is beginning to explode. I have seen an explosion, so I want to make sure I am right there during this metamorphosis that is happening in the art world. I think people are appreciating art right now. The pandemic has contributed because people have been staying home looking at their four walls. They are thinking more about the importance of art because the art in their room really makes them happy. I think not only older people are appreciating art, but younger people as well. It is a nice thing for the artists and a nice thing for the clients.
