12 Inaugural Edition | Marquis Who ’ s Who Insight TASHEEMA L. FAIR, MD, FACOG Physician/Health &Wellness Coach Maryville, TN What is the most important issue/ challenge you are dealing with in your industry right now? Women’s health and rights are always the topic of discussion. With a new bill being past concerning abortion, the fine line between freedom of choice and state legislation was crossed. It makes my position hard because my patients no longer have a say in their own care. What new innovations or technologies do you feel will shape the future of your industry? New surgical techniques that make it easier to operate and get the patient home and without postoperative complications are always favored. Also, anything that involves making the process more efficient with less time involved. The less time a patient is open, the less chance there is for complication. RUSSELL J. GALLIAN Lawyer Saint George, UT How do you feel your industry has changed/evolved over time? When I started working with a computer, I could spend a day or two learning something that a young person could learn in five or 10 minutes. Young people never cease to amaze me — their abilities are enhanced by computers and technology. The industry is completely different than it used to be from that standpoint. What new innovations or technologies do you feel will shape the future of your industry? Probably artificial intelligence and the ability of computers to reason. I think the human mind has maintained a degree of superiority due to its ability to reason. As computers start learning and reasoning in the same way humans can, many things in the industry will change. HEIDI M. KOENIG, MD, FASA Medical Educator Louisville, KY How have you navigated disruptions in your industry to remain a top professional? I have worked hard to promote the physician lead anesthesia care team locally, as well as at the state and national levels. Further, I have advocated for insurers to continue compensating the entire care team. How do you feel your industry has changed/evolved over time? Health care administration has grown, and many new regulations and requirements are driving physicians out of the profession. In addition, physician satisfaction is way down — depression and burnout are way up. What excites you the most about your industry? Training the next generation of anesthesiologists and learning new techniques continuously.
