Inaugural Edition | Marquis Who ’ s Who Insight 13 DR. STEPHEN JOSEPH LEONE Deputy Secretary of Education (Ret.) Valley Cottage, NY What is the most important issue/ challenge you are dealing with in your industry right now? I don’t think students are as well- prepared as they were in the past; we are doing a lot more remedial work with them, unfortunately. Also, current administrations are very dollar focused, so programs and classes are being cut because they don’t fit into the financial model that administrations are striving for. What new innovations or technologies do you feel will shape the future of your industry? We are seeing much more personalized learning through technology. We are learning to really personalize what we are doing with each student in order to build on their strengths and help them through their weaknesses. DR. THOMAS J. MCPARTLAND Dir. (Ret.), WYS of Honors & Liberal Studies Frankfort, KY How do you feel your industry has changed/evolved over time? I think that one of the great challenges in intellectual culture that I’m dealing with as a whole is discerning what’s important and what isn’t, especially with social media. What new innovations or technologies do you feel will shape the future of your industry? I am sure there are more conferences available through communication devices that are eliminating the need to go somewhere physically. At the same time, good old face-to-face conversations are still important. To progress, you have to bring up new things without getting rid of old things. GEORGE HENRY MEGRUE Artist, Founder & President, Megrue Microanalytical Systems Co. New Canaan, CT How have you navigated disruptions in your industry to remain a top professional? By answering inquires from anybody that is interested in applying information to a new field of science. How do you feel your industry has changed/evolved over time? In some ways, it has become more restrictive because of funding. People don’t have excess funds to pursue many different options. Also, technology is evolving on a daily basis. What new innovations or technologies do you feel will shape the future of your industry? The 5G revolution has made an impact. It makes information more available at a faster rate, leading to more proficiency in information processing.
