That goes on in every industry and in every business, so it is always going to be very strong. Many people who are licensed CPAs also happen to be licensed attorneys and/or work in attorney’s offices. They are relevant, and the integrity and the ethic that is required for this kind of work, and to be able to stay within the profession is really important to the whole country and for the financial strength of this county because taxes are reviewed and verified. People are sued from time to time by the government for lying on their tax returns, and it is not just the federal government, it is every state that has tax laws. It keeps everything going – keeps the wheel turning – the money flowing in the proper direction, and when that goes in the proper direction, the feds or the states can give support to other special needs within the geographical 50 states. So, it is a very, very important profession and really requires integrity and ethics. What is the most important issue/challenge you are dealing with in your industry right now? All the new things are truly based on previous things. Most work at one time was done by hand, and then much of it was also done by a computer, but now doing it on the computer is not so simple, so you need to know all the various programs that are currently available and use them properly. That is the challenge because people have a license, but the new professional coming up, they will all come up with the knowledge of how to handle the computer because every high school and university has courses that are appropriate. That’s how you keep on — you keep studying and you keep learning. How do you feel your industry has changed/ evolved over time? I believe more women have entered the profession than in the past. Other than that, most of the people on a personal level that I have observed and work with, they respect your mind and what you are able to do, so it has nothing to do with whether you are female or male, and they reach out to everybody. People come into the profession young and others come into the profession when they are older. Many people, when they enter college, become double majors in certain fields. Some of them will take a special language plus auditing or accounting and then they can go around the world because they have more than one language — they can do the work that needs to be done. So, it is only a growth situation, it is not a negative and that is the best thing about it. The rules don’t really change. When they do, you have to keep current course, and you have to keep current whether we are using computers, or pen and pencil and paper, you still need to know. What excites you the most about your industry? There is a certain logic that is so relevant and there is a certain degree of detecting. It is like a detective story sometimes and that is really fun to find. If you find an error, well then, you have found the solution to the mystery. It is a good feeling, and if everything goes well, then you feel it’s like a love story that came to an end. There’s a certain logic in accounting, and that is why we’re able to do what we do and tell if something is off. It’s really like solving a mystery when that happens. It takes a lot of logic and not everyone has that same kind of logic.
