JAMES EADE Founder, Chief Executive Officer The Eade Foundation Menlo Park, CA https://eadefoundation.org/ A world-renowned chess master, chess tournament organizer and chess book publisher, Mr. Eade founded the Eade Foundation in 2019, a premier group dedicated to providing underserved communities with the resources necessary to develop proficient chess players. In addition, The Eade Foundation promotes chess literacy and notation, which allows players to preserve games for further study and to receive advice and counsel from advanced players. Mr. Eade is a trustee and served as president of the U.S. Chess Trust from 2000 to 2019. After initially obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in history from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1978, Mr. Eade subsequently achieved a Master of Arts in human resources management from the University of San Francisco in 1991. He began organizing chess tournaments in the 1990s, with one of his earliest successes being the 1995 Pan Pacific International Chess Tournament, which attracted champions from around the globe and was won by grandmaster Viktor Korchnoi. Mr. Eade’s professional chess membership organizations include the Kolty Chess for Youth Foundation, Chess Journalists of America and the CalChess Northern California Chess Federation, all of which he has served as president. In 2018, he received the Outstanding Career Achievement Award from the United States Chess Federation (USCF) and Chess Educator of the Year from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2016. Mr. Eade is perhaps best known as the author of multiple books on chess that include the bestselling “Chess for Dummies” in 1996 and “The Chess Player’s Bible” in 2004. He also founded Hypermodern Press, a chess publishing company that produced a handful of well-received titles authored by himself as well as other authors before ceasing operations in 1999, which included “The Chess of Bobby Fischer,” “The Unconventional King’s Indian Defense” and “The Big Book of Combinations.” How have you navigated disruptions in your industry to remain a top professional?
