Fifth Edition Marquis Who’s Who INSIGHT 15 INSIGHT MARQUIS WHO′S WHO FIFTH EDITION thusiastically partnering with Heroic Habitat, a nonprofit business that assists frontline workers and veterans in their transitions to first-time homeownership. Looking toward the future, he aims to own a mortgage company and contribute to residential developments that accommodate similar potential homeowner sectors. How have you navigated disruptions in your industry to remain a top professional? There are people who will compete in the same market, but personally, I don’t think I have competition, only because I applaud others and learn from them, but not in a vain way. I just believe I am uniquely made, so I am fit to do what I do. While others may do something well, there are so many people in so many demographics that need to be served, so they just serve to get the result. My method may be more spiritual-based — I am not scared to go there because I am always going to give God the glory in the end. You can’t just spit scripture at people; they can read the Bible if they want to. What are two key behaviors/personality traits that allow you to be effective in your role? My teachable nature, authenticity and discipline. What is the most important issue/challenge you are dealing with in your industry? I am too critical of myself — I don’t celebrate my victories, and I don’t like being put in the limelight. How do you feel your industry has changed/evolved? Well, if it’s not evolving or growing, then it’s dead. So, I know the initial concept; different parts get added to the business as I steward what I have right now. I switched companies, so I had to update that by moving to a better support system. It always evolves. We just have to be okay with change. Changing and evolving are inevitable because, if someone is teachable, they will be vulnerable to change every time they come across new content or new truth. At that moment, we get to make a decision about whether to evolve or stay the same. Sometimes opportunities are missed, maybe because we don’t really believe in ourselves or we just need more clarity. I am always open as I encounter new people; they might say something and challenge me in a way that I have already done privately. I challenge myself with truth, but I also pay attention to what the Lord tells me privately, and then I see it publically. That is what helps me facilitate change. What excites you the most about your industry? I get high off of other people’s highs, like when I see the same passion and joy that I have about life come alive in someone else who didn’t think it was possible. I get such joy and fulfillment out of watching other people win. I never take an encounter for granted; I am always reading, understanding and listening in spirit.
