Prior to her current position, she excelled as a science teacher at the Calhoun School in New York from 2008 to 2018. Likewise, she taught math and science at the Yeshivat Noam School, Anna C. Scott Elementary School and grades four through six at the Professional Children’s School. Furthermore, Ms. Gillman operated as a sixth-grade teacher at the Bede School, and she was a fourth- and fifth-grade teacher at Joytown Kent Elementary School. Ms. Gillman began her career as a fifth-grade teacher at Saint Angela Merici School in 1982. Alongside her primary roles, she has also acted as a subject area representative for the elementary section of the Science Teachers Association of New York State since 2016, and she was a member of the Pitsco Teacher Advisory Group for three years. In addition, Ms. Gillman was an ambassador for the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution Mission Program with NASA. She has likewise held the role of conference workshop leader for several organizations, such as the Science Council of New York City, the National Science Teaching Association, the Science Teachers Association of New York State, and the New York Association of Independent Schools. In 2019, Ms. Gillman became a National Geographic Certified Educator after completing a three-part certification process and received exemplary grades throughout. Certified in kindergarten through eighth-grade elementary education and kindergarten through 12th-grade hearing-impaired education, Ms. Gillman has authored several creative pieces over the course of her career, including “Straw Rockets are Out of this World,” which was released in 2013, and she has contributed a number of articles to professional journals in her field. In addition, she has been an influential violinist in her community, playing with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, the North Jersey Symphony Orchestra, and the August Symphony Orchestra.
