I joined the very prestigious Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in the early stage of my career. It was my first job, and they put me on the right track. I was recruited in 1977 while I was in Poland by Professor Ozawa, who was the top global scientist on animal viruses. I was accepted quickly because I adapted very well. What innovations or technologies do you feel will shape the future of your industry? As I have been building my reputation as a virologist, I’ve found that the key issue is quality control. The world is littered with waste products of below-standard quality, and our task is to bring this to an acceptable level for developed countries. I’m not too rigid, and I work with others in a friendly and professional manner. How do you feel your industry has changed/evolved? I feel like we are more effective and efficient now. We’re more efficient in removing junk mail, doing troubleshooting, and researching where mail should be sent and getting it there as soon as possible. What excites you the most about your industry? I feel like I can go home every day and know that I made a difference for somebody out there; I know I am part of the bigger picture. I have contact with the public and I’m able to help them and show them where they need to go. I take pride in helping people like that.
