Sixth Edition Marquis Who’s Who INSIGHT 15 INSIGHT MARQUIS WHO′S WHO SIXTH EDITION SPRING 2024 wants and desires. In today’s fast-paced world, disruptions are the new normal; I embrace this change and uncertainty as an opportunity for growth and innovation. It’s not about how we start but how we finish. What are two key behaviors/personality traits that allow you to be effective in your role? I have a positive attitude, and my two key traits are compassion and empathy – I listen to others and value their opinions. The most exciting thing someone has told me is that I appear to be an elegant rose in the middle of a daisy field. I’m thoughtful and caring, and I have so much to give to the world to continue to spread my wings. I’m also highly resourceful and help connect people, whether they’re plumbers, electricians, contractors, doctors, lawyers, artists, florists or even therapists. What is the most important issue/challenge you are dealing with in your industry? The most important challenges that I’m dealing with in my industry, at this point in my life, are with my philanthropy. There are hundreds of charities competing with the same donations. In real estate, the management and maintenance of properties get tricky, especially when tenants move in and parts aren’t available, but somehow, I’m resourceful and make it work. The COVID-19 pandemic was the most challenging when tenants didn’t have to pay rent. I manage several properties with my husband, Douglas Warner, and we give our tenants high-quality down comforters, linens, pots and pans, and towels. My husband and I work together in our philanthropy and business, and somehow, it all ties in. We share the good that we do to help others every day. How do you feel your industry has changed/evolved? Two areas that I’m concentrating on now are philanthropy and mental health. Philanthropy has challenges maintaining a donor base, raising money, implementing programs and keeping charities current. I was in my board of trustees meeting for the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, answering this question after 40 years of being a leader in fundraising. I applaud the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles as a pioneer that gives families hope by bringing together a team of leading doctors, nurses, therapists and volunteers who remove fear, anxiety and stigma. What innovations or technologies do you feel will shape the future of your industry? As a philanthropist and mental health advocate through the Janis Black Warner Speaker Series for the National Alliance on Mental Illness in West Los Angeles, I’m elated about greater research being done for brain illnesses and stigma. We’re not alone, and everyone is discussing mental health, which is my mission. Research and development for new pharmaceuticals are shared worldwide toward cures and natural ways to help depression and anxiety. Your diet, self-care, meditation and talking about the mental health landscape welcome discoveries that showcase immersive technologies. As a result, we see sophisticated technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and virtual reality as effective tools to support holistic health care and access to mental health intervention that’s stigma- free and affordable. We’ll need traditional therapy and human-to-human relationships, but also AI technology that delivers empathetic mental health support that may eliminate fear and stigma, enabling therapeutics to reach more people who may not seek help otherwise.
