Ms. Khan’s business success and longevity are greatly attributed to growing organically through referrals. In the past few years, she has been sharing her strategies on YouTube in educational videos originally intended for her company’s students. These videos have not only helped students across the globe but have also significantly increased awareness of her novel tutoring approach, which she deems the “Don't Think Too Much Approach.” Her most notable achievements include starting her own business with no financial assistance and publishing proprietary educational publications that have garnered copyrights and patents for innovative strategies for standardized tests, which are available on global online shopping sites such as Amazon. The continued success that students experience throughout the rest of their academic careers, whether having worked with Ms. Khan and her team or using her self-prep materials, is a testament to her company's success. Looking ahead, Ms. Khan is committed to expanding access to standardized test preparation by developing more educational publications and videos that will eventually culminate into comprehensive self-prep publications. She would like to make these resources available to students who may not be able to afford traditional tutoring rates, thereby democratizing access to educational opportunities. How have you navigated disruptions in your industry to remain a top professional? A lot of it is learning to do my work when I'm inspired, even when there's always going to be distraction. The business is 24/7, but that doesn't mean I have to stay up 24/7 and do work. You have to sleep to do good work. I do my work when I’m inspired because that's when I'm more productive. I'm also learning how to manage everything around me. What are two key behaviors/personality traits that allow you to be effective in your role? I stay young. I don't want to let myself go and get old – because that's when we start getting tired. It’s important to stay young and always want to learn more, see more and accomplish more. What is the most important issue/challenge you are dealing with in your industry? There are more standardized tests. We get straight-A students who can ace their tests, but the students don't perform well on standardized tests, which has been an issue since I started teaching. What excites you the most about your industry? Learning new things. Another thing that keeps everything fresh is getting new students. I learn about more students, which helps me learn how to help them. I love producing my shows, too.
