His efforts are driven by a deep-seated belief in doing what is right for the community and striving for a better world through health care innovation. How do you feel your industry has changed/evolved? The industry is evolving rapidly in terms of cutting-edge medicine and science. There’s always this belief that growth is slow and steady, and that’s true as it requires significant oversight, testing and statistically significant studies – it takes time. But then rapid evolution and understanding take hold. When you investigate the use of genes or cell therapies, just in the last five years, we've seen a 2,000% growth in publications. We're at the point where it requires more awareness and attention. The flip side of it is that it's a very profitable industry and has encouraged many pioneers to almost not publish or remain quiet because it's something that not everyone knows. My goal is to create as many competitors to what I do as possible because this is much larger than what we're looking at right now. With that, you can blend both the positive economic gain and the positive health results for everyone. This requires a more open-source approach to what we're doing, why we're doing it and how we're doing it. What excites you the most about your industry? This is one of the fields of science that has a real opportunity to revolutionize health care, and it makes personal sacrifices worthwhile when you see that potential. It does require a serious commitment to work while making sure you make positive changes and leave the world better off than when you came into it. I feel like I had the opportunity to do something good; that's what led me to the industry. Specifically, I'm one person working in one small section of the world. But with success, we can impact the world and every person in it. There's real weight on that, which drives me and the team. It's inspiring, and at the same time, there's a burden – it feels like there’s an obligation to be successful.
