By maintaining a debt-free approach, I ensure flexibility and resilience, even in challenging times. We never finance trucks or equipment, choosing instead to reinvest strategically in our business. What is the most important issue/challenge you are dealing with in your industry? One of the most pressing challenges we are facing is the potential discontinuation of the Energy Star program by the Environmental Protection Agency. This decision would significantly impact our operations, as Energy Star serves as the foundational prerequisite for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Zero Energy Ready Home program, which is central to our certification process. As we navigate this uncertainty, we are carefully evaluating our next steps to ensure that we continue to uphold industry-leading standards in energy efficiency and sustainable building practices How do you feel your industry has changed/evolved? The industry has become increasingly technical over the years. When I first started, many building and indoor environmental factors were not considered. Today, a strong emphasis is on energy efficiency and indoor health. What innovations or technologies do you feel will shape the future of your industry? Indoor environmental monitoring is an exciting advancement that is poised to shape the future of our industry. This technology enables precise tracking of airborne particulates such as mold, pollen and other contaminants, providing real-time insights into indoor air quality. By leveraging this data, individuals and businesses can make informed decisions to enhance air purity and create healthier living environments. As this science continues to evolve, it has the potential to significantly improve the way we manage and optimize indoor spaces. What excites you the most about your industry? Home is where life happens, and being part of creating high-quality, long-lasting, energy-efficient and healthy homes is incredibly rewarding. Not long ago, our industry lacked the knowledge and tools to build truly sustainable and healthy homes, but in the past two decades, modern building science professionals have revolutionized the field.
