Insight 7th Editon_Fall_Dr. Abbas Mohammadi

That’s the art of surviving and living – to transform obstacles into opportunities. President, Chief Executive Officer, Clinical Director Columbia Dental Manchester, CT https://columbiadental.com/ Born in Iran, Dr. Abbas Mohammadi fled the country as a teenager at the outset of the Iranian revolution. He settled in Greece, where he obtained a Doctor of Medical Dentistry from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. After moving to the U.S. in the late 1980s, he was awarded a fellowship in oral microbiology and periodontology at Columbia University in 1990. After a 1993 policy change required internationally trained dentists to hold an American dental degree to remain in practice, Dr. Mohammadi returned to school, earning a Doctor of Dental Surgery at Columbia University. Though he originally aspired to become a researcher and academic, once he received his degree, he decided that clinical work and practice ownership were the best avenues for his career. Dr. Mohammadi moved to Connecticut and opened Columbia Dental, PC in 2000. He began the practice out of a small office and continued working in other practices to generate more revenue. He initially offered appointments seven days a week and often saw patients after hours. When the demand for his services grew too great, he left his other jobs to focus solely on his own business. Over its 24 years of operation, Columbia Dental has grown to 13 locations in Connecticut, providing multispecialty practices and services from more than 30 providers. By sharing his story, corporate philosophy and action-oriented mindset, Dr. Mohammadi hopes to show patients a more human side of the dental field. Striving to give his patients the best possible care, he continually seeks out innovative and creative ways to improve, including implementing a digital laboratory at their Manchester location that provides same-day product delivery. How have you navigated disruptions in your industry to remain a top professional? As Darwin said, the species that adapt faster are the ones that survive. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we couldn't perform elective procedures, but we could provide emergency services. I shut down all my locations and managed everything out of my main office in Manchester. This was when we established ABBAS MOHAMMADI, DDS
