I would say collegiality — we had a very good team, and we would make a point of discussing issues. We were all equals and didn’t have any top-down command control mechanism. So, when we attempted to form a plan of action, we were normally flexible. I think that the more you do, the more experience you gain, and that experience is very beneficial in business. What is the most important issue/challenge you are dealing with in your industry right now? Staying competitive, I think. A lot of that involved being able to recruit the proper talent with the knowledge and background that we needed in the organization. How do you feel your industry has changed/evolved over time? Well, I think that the change has to do primarily with technology. The internet has changed news- paper publishing dramatically. In terms of broadcasting, instead of having many different compa- nies involved, there’s coalescence around a few large ones. That has been the biggest change on that front. What new innovations or technol- ogies do you feel will shape the future of your industry? I am not sure we know yet. There is so much new stuff going on almost daily, so to try to predict what the next great thing may be is difficult. It is beyond my crystal ball. The next thing may not exist yet, but some bright, young person will probably bring it to the market so that we can find out what it is. What excites you the most about your industry? I’m retired now, but I think that watching some of the people I brought into the organization grow, de- velop, and blossom was the most satisfying thing to see.
