Benjamin L. Hoff Author, Scriptwriter Wilsonville, OR www.benjaminhoffauthor.com What are two key behaviors/personal- ity traits that allow you to be effective in your role? In writing, perseverance helps. You have to keep at it. How do you feel your industry has changed/evolved over time? The industry has changed partly be- cause of competition from the internet. The computer has made people lazy. I use the computer to get information from the internet, but I don’t write on the computer. I write my first draft in longhand, and after the first draft is done, I use an IBM Wheelwriter, which is a sophisticated typewriter. I am able to process complicated matters and make them simple and understandable. What excites you the most about your industry? Writing is like climbing a mountain. I think I have good ideas, but making them work is the exciting part. The rest is hard work. Dr. Jane Katz Aquatics Education New York, NY www.drjanekatz.com What is the most important issue/chal- lenge you are dealing with in your industry right now? After creating aquatic programs for 60 years, I have learned that making personal connections with students and finding out their aquatic histories opens the door. Most challenging is teaching people who have had bad experiences because they inhaled water. I’ve heard a myriad of traumatizing stories, especially from people of color. I encourage students to practice exhaling and inhaling through everyday activities (i.e., blowing bubbles through a straw) for exercise, so the breathing skill becomes effortless. This is the key component of swimming. What excites you the most about your industry? It’s nice to hear success stories from people about the water. 12 Marquis Who ’ s Who Insight | Third Edition Efren W. I was originally drawn to special librarianship because I was able to help people in specialty fields find answers to problems of all kinds. How do you feel your industry has changed/evolved over time? The pharmaceutical industry has realigned many product objectives to match the great strides in medical research using the technological advances of the industry. What excites you the most about your industry? Information professionals are run- ning just as fast as scientists to solve the ever-changing ways to bring good health to the world.
