Inaugural Edition | Marquis Who ’ s Who Insight 11 L. CURTIS CARY, MD ProgramDirector, Medical Educator Ooltewah, TN How have you navigated disruptions in your industry to remain a top professional? Through direct and effective communication, and trying to find ways to understand barriers and get to a better place. Even though you might share differences about how things should be done, put the patient first. What are two key behaviors/personality traits that allow you to be effective in your role? Humility and kindness go distances other behaviors cannot match. Being humble and kind has a strong foundation in effectiveness. What is the most important issue/challenge you are dealing with in your industry right now? Health care is dynamic. The science changes by the hour and the policies that enwrap it have multiple forces that have vested interests in all aspects. JOSHUA CROSSNEY CEO, Cannabis Science Conference Baltimore, MD How have you navigated disruptions in your industry to remain a top professional? We’ve had to overcome years and years of misinformation and prohibition. Obviously, we are operating right now on a state-by- state basis because cannabis is still not federally legal, so there are a lot of challenges. Being flexible and being able to change when the industry changes is important. What are two key behaviors/ personality traits that allow you to be effective in your role? I am very personable; everyone that comes to our shows, I want them to feel like they are a part of my extended family. Coming into this industry as an LGBT individual, I had to make a decision to tone myself down or just go out there and be who I am. Whenever you’re pretending to be something you’re not, it can get in the way of your success. WARREN A. CEBULKO Supervisor, Coding Education & Compliance Lansing, IL How have you navigated disruptions in your industry to remain a top professional? Regarding the consolidation process of compliance, there are always challenges; we address them as they come along. The rules keep changing, and they will be changing substantially in 2021, but beyond that, there are procedural policy things we always have to work through. What excites you the most about your industry ? I enjoy working with medical people to give them what guidance I can to minimize the parts that they don’t have as much focus on or interest in. Medical professionals are focused on patient care, so trying to minimize the other parts of their jobs to help them maintain good standing is rewarding.
